Loveletters and miscellaneous ramblings from Dopeblind themselves:

08.10.03 : OZZFEST
(submitted by Brian)

We were both running on a lack of sleep from the night before, but when we arrived at Ozzfest it didn't matter - it was nothing short of being in a world where rock and drinking rule the earth. Lee and I made our way through the crowd in search of breakfast at the Jager tent. When we got here, the Redheaded Sluts and BBQ Pork was just what I needed. Not to mention the Jager girls, who looked hot as always Bands came in and out to sign swag like clockword, and the Jager chants from the crowd were so loud at times we couldn't even hear the music from the stage. All the Jager bands kicked ass and the folks at Jager sure know how to throw a party and make a guy feel at home. You guys rock.

08.01.03 : PREPRODUCTION PERSONIFIED
(submitted by Lee)

These are the hours no one ever sees... we're in preproduction now for the new record, which more or less means a series of seemingly endless days as we slowly and methodically arrange and learn the twenty or so new songs that will ultimately become the next Dopeblind CD. Preproduction is sort of like studying for a test - except in this case we're memorizing songs instead of Planck's constant. The theory is that in preproduction you make all the stupid little nitpicky decisions about the arrangement of the songs (what parts happen where) so that when you go into the studio (or, production) there are fewer decisions to make.

How nitpicky? Typical conversation in preproduction:

Tim: "Do you think we should go with the ascending or descending line in the chorus?"

Lee: "I like the decending line, but I'm worried that the dissonance interferes with the tonality of the melody."

Exciting stuff, eh?

Our bible is the Dopeblind song board - a white dry erase board that lists the twenty songs we're working on and a rough estimation of how much is left to do on each song. We live to mark the board with the "X" that indicates a given tune is completed.

Hey, it still beats working, but I'd rather be out on stage playing for y'all.
